As we wait to board the final leg of our journey home, I can't help but wonder, has the trip been worthwhile to my kids? Are they grateful? Did they mature into understanding young men?
When Steve had joined us in Nepal I had gushed at one point how much the boys had matured. He had looked at me perplexed, eyebrows bent, he couldn't see it.
I guess like most parent child issues, it's subjective.
Cody has decided after all he has seen that he definitely wants to be an engineer, no doubt, that or a tuk tuk driver. Taiga after all he has experienced wants to be a geologist, palaeontologist or archaeologist or he might just like to draw cars.
What have I learned? They are still kids. They have taught me the beautiful innocence of really seeing something for the first time, not just looking at it, the wild fun of running in the rain, you actually don't catch a cold, staying up late on purpose, when you have the luxury of being able to sleep in, the purity of dancing and singing loud off key notes with the safety of friends, or people that don't speak your language.
We've seen the most inspiring, amazing, weird crazy people, places and things and have soaked them up and loved and accepted them. We've even invited some of them home to visit.
We've laughed at least 35 times a day, sometimes to the point of tears rolling down our faces. We've loved everything and everybody with an innocence that only a child can express and acceptance that only a parent can impart.
We know we can climb mountains if we put our minds to it; we know we can make a positive difference in other people's lives with not much effort at all. We know there are some serious injustices in the world and that we can help put them right. We also know the world is full of beauty, wonder and so many opportunities.
Was it worthwhile? ABSOLUTELY! WITHOUT A DOUBT! YES! YES! YES!
I won't put 'The End', because that would suggest that coming home ends the adventure, I will simply finish with TO BE CONTINUED ……
x Lisa ( a better mum for having had the experience)
